Ami Mehta studied and practiced architecture and environmental design for more than twelve years before making the transition to full-time visual artist. Much like the architecture she is drawn to, her pieces originate from a dialogue between abstraction and substance, turbulence and tranquility, organic spontaneity within the constraints of structure. The quality of Amis mark-making is meditative and delicate, interspersed with bold and aggressive gestures--evoking natures delicate balance between order and chaos. Her distinctive color palette is heavily influenced by her Indian background and extensive world travelsbright ochres and olives from growing up off the coast of Saudi Arabia, the deep emeralds she experienced while trekking across Mongolia, the glistening ceruleans of the glaciers of Torres Del Paine. Ami lives outside of Houston, Texas with her husband and three children.
