Painter and printmaker Mark Masterson uses finely detailed imagery and bold colors to explore storytelling and its absurdities. He creates odd pairings in the relationships of his chosen imagery, derived from all sources of popular culture and history, from Sugar Babies to Peter Bruegel. He creates a seemingly familiar story and, simultaneously, interjects contrary elements. There is a dialogue with the viewer who, upon second glance, will discover a completely different meaning other than the image's surface value.
