Marthann Masterson uses her paintings to chronicle her life story, her exploration and transcendence. Influenced by Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock, her paintings evoke a rich visual harmony derived from the juxtaposition of precision and randomness. The abstracts she paints are an expression of brilliant colors mixed together. They are big and beautiful, full of life. She uses the chair as a metaphor to share her observations on human nature. Masterson's paintings have been exhibited across the United States including NewYork, Texas, Illinois and Florida. One of her paintings inspired a ballet now included in the repertoire of the Sarasota Ballet Company in Florida. By contrast, her abstract paintings exemplify the resilience of the human spirit. As revealed in "A Mardi Gras Fete", with vibrant layers of bold color interspersed with subtle glimmers of shimmering light, celebrating the joy and vibrancy Masterson has achieved through her art. The colors and energy of Rothko and Pollock inspire her to explore similar vibrancy and freedom in her work, which is truly about the joy that comes when she is creating a painting.
