Reagan Corbett, a native of Houston, Texas, received her BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin, College of Fine Arts. She also studied at the University of Paris Sorbonne. Reagan currently resides in Houston where her career as an emerging artist has taken flight. In the wake of the current feminist and social revolution, Reagan is heavily influenced by social norms and how they affect our society. Both her visual focus and conceptual focus are rooted in American pop culture; Reagans work, while simple at first glance, offers open-ended questions for the viewer to contemplate. Two key components of Reagans painting style are color and size. The figures in Reagans work are important, but it is her colors that tell the story. To achieve the right hue, she uses oils, acrylics, and occasionally metallics. High gloss and/or matte varnishes also play an important role in each composition. In a society where it is increasingly difficult to accept anything at face value, Reagan uses large canvasses to magnify a small area of the human figure. This is her way of bringing brutal honesty to the edited, filtered, selfie culture we have all become accustomed to.
