Suzette Mouchaty is a sculptor who lives and works in Houston, TX. Born in Michigan, Mouchaty spent her childhood amidst the mystical red rocks and canyon lands of Sedona, Arizona. She recently completed her MFA (2018) at University of Houston in Interdisciplinary Practices and Emerging Forms (IPEF). Formerly a scientist, Mouchaty holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from Lund University, Sweden. Her artistic practice focuses on sociopolitical issues, producing artworks that are incursions into false logic of restrictive social and political structures. Mouchaty works primarily in assemblage sculpture using fragments of mechanical objects, implements and other man-made materials, delving into the psychic space between rational scientific thought and an imaginary and subversive artistic realm.
